About this Event

The Royal Irish Academy (RIA) invites Members, and others with an interest in European research policy, to an information morning in Belfast chaired by Daniel Carey, President of the RIA. The session will focus on updates within the European Research Environment.

Speakers from the RIA, the British Academy, and from the European federation of academies of sciences and humanities, ALLEA, will explore topics including funding under the next multi-annual financial framework, the work of the ALLEA Science Policy Standing Committee, selected issues under the current European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda 2025-27 and the proposed EU legislation on the ERA.

09:30 - Introduction from Daniel Carey, President of the Royal Irish Academy

09.40 - Presentation from Daniel Kaiser, deputy director of the European federation of academies of sciences and humanities, ALLEA, about the work of ALLEA’s Science Policy Standing Committee and of the EU-funded projects in which ALLEA is a partner.

10:25- Briefing on EU research funding with an emphasis on preparation for the next Framework Programme, with Hugo Clarke (British Academy) and Jennifer Kenneally, RIA senior policy and international relations manager

11:10- Coffee break

11.30- Briefing on the proposed European Research Area legislation with Dr Daithí Mac Síthigh, RIA head of policy and international relations

12.15- Closing Remarks
