About this Event
“I've never been so haunted by a collection.” —Laurel Hightower
The Drowning Machine
In these eighteen stories, Emma E. Murray navigates uncharted waters of love, lust, and loss, descending into that most darkest of places: the human (and inhuman) heart.
Amidst the spiral and churn, you will hear frighteningly realistic tales of parental regret, the death of innocence, carnel yearning, and creeping evil, among other voices of the damned. Some are ferorcious howls from out of the deep; others, tender lullabies, or deranged arias of grief--and beneath it all, the quiet, contented hum of something which has just been fed. .. yet hungers for more.
With stories that have been previously published in such venues as Vasterian and COsmic Horror Monthly, as well as critically acclaimed anthologies, Emma E. Murray's virtuosic prose takes the reader to the very root of the vortex and will leave them gasping for air.

Interview
An exclusive interview with the author!
As a writer of horror and dark speculative fiction, Murray finds inspiration in the macabre and unsettling, a reflection of my fascination with the human psyche, nurtured by her background in psychology, education, and literature. What you’ll find in all her work are morally gray characters, struggles with complicated grief and mental illness, and a queer, feminine lens of horror.
While she loved her years as an elementary teacher, getting to know and teach many wonderful students, she has now embraced her true calling as an author.
As a southern girl who’s lived all over the U.S. (as well as overseas), Murray has stories set in many places, but she seems to keep coming back to the South.
Beside writing, she loves playing pretend with her daughter, hiking, retro video games, and playing Dungeons and Dragons.
