Known as both a masterful artist and insufferable egotist, American architect Frank Lloyd Wright formed an enduring reputation during his lifetime that continues to captivate fans of his iconic buildings and designs. On October 5, Indiana Landmarks welcomes author Paul Hendrickson to share insights from his 2019 book, Plagued by Fire: The Dreams and Furies of Frank Lloyd Wright, an interpretive biography delving into lesser-known aspects of the famed architect’s life and work.Paul Hendrickson, author of the New York Times bestselling biography Hemingway’s Boat (2011), currently serves as honorary journalism chair for Indianapolis’s Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library. Among other accolades, he is a three-time finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, winning the nonfiction award in 2003 for Sons of Mississippi: A Story of Race and Its Legacy. After working two decades as a staff writer at The Washington Post, Hendrickson served on the faculty of the creative writing program at the University of Pennsylvania from 1998 to 2024. His most recent book, Fighting the Night: Iwo Jima, World War II, and a Flyer’s Life (2024), is a reported memoir about his father.
