The Docklands Journey: Who Am I?

A hosted cultural experience exploring empire, migration, labour, identity and belonging through one East End family's story.

Part tour, part oral history, part personal journey- this unique experience follows the threads connecting East End workers, Jamaican plantations, global trade routes, suffragettes, trade unionists and the communities they helped create.

Travelling by cable car, riverboat, museum visit and guided walk, we'll uncover the hidden histories behind the docks while asking a bigger question: how did these forces shape who we are today?

The Journey

An intimate group experience (9 max), your journey includes travel by London's iconic cable car and scenic riverboat service, plus a home made meal and juice served in a local heritage venue.

Hosted by Melanie Bartlett – union organiser, historic storyteller and descendant of both East End workers and Jamaican plantation communities – this tour combines research, family history, poetry and lived experience to bring London's past to life in a way that is personal, engaging and thought-provoking.

Suitable for anyone interested in history, social justice, migration, family stories, London, and the connections between past and present.
