Course Description: The Difficult Airway Course: EMS is an intensive, 16-hour, 2-day class continuing education program designed specifically for paramedics, advanced EMTs, pre-hospital nurses, and critical care transport providers
Teaching Approach: Combines lectures, small-group hands-on skill stations, and interactive Code Airway™ simulations.
Framework: Teaches the evidence-based airway management approach developed by airway experts Dr. Ron M. Walls, Dr. Michael F. Murphy, and Dr. Robert C. Luten
Key Curriculum Topics
• Airway Assessment: Predicting difficult airways and evaluating anatomy in pre-hospital environments.
• Advanced Devices: Utilizing video laryngoscopy, extraglottic devices (supraglottic and infraglottic), intubating stylets, and laryngeal mask airways.
• Medication-Assisted Intubation: Training in Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) and Rapid Sequence Airway (RSA) protocols.
• Surgical Airways: Performing open and percutaneous emergency surgical cricothyrotomy (FONA).
• Special Populations: Managing pediatric airways and handling unique pre-hospital hurdles.
Simulated High-Risk Scenarios
Participants practice decision-making and rescue techniques in low-risk simulation stations covering critical emergencies, including:
• Elevated intracranial pressure (ICP)
• Pulmonary edema and cardiogenic shock
• Status asthmaticus
• Foreign body airway obstruction
• Direct airway trauma
• Multiple trauma with shock
Cost: $425
