The 100 Families Diaper Dash 5K, Diaper Drive is a relaxed, family-friendly 5k race that takes place Saturday, November 30th at 8:00 a.m. in Searcy, AR. The entire family is welcome to participate, and the registration fee is a donation of one package of diapers per person (size 3 and up preferred). Strollers are welcome on the course.
Diaper need is refers to a family being unable to afford enough diapers for their children. Diaper need affects 1 in 3 families nationwide, but the poverty rate in Searcy is much higher than the nationwide poverty rate (21% here compared to 11% nationwide). When families’ diaper needs are met, the stress of the parents is reduced and the health and comfort of their children improves. Meeting diaper need allows parents to work reliably to support their families since most daycares require that families provide an adequate diaper supply. For low-income families, daycare often makes the difference in school readiness. This can later affect school success, graduation rate, and career success down the road. Helping families in our community meet their diapering needs allows them to break the cycle of poverty!
Course: The Diaper Dash start and finish line will be staged in the parking lot of the Downtown Church of Christ at 900 North Main St. in Searcy, AR. An aid station will provide water and medical support near Berryhill Park.
Timing and awards: To keep costs low and this race accessible to families of all sizes, timing will be provided by a finish line clock, but there will not be bibs or timing chips.
First and second adults, teens, and children 12 and under, will receive Diaper Dash Medals. All children finishing will receive small participation awards.
Registration: In lieu of a monetary registration fee, one package of diapers per participant will serve as the registration fee. Size 3 diapers and larger are encouraged, as these larger sizes are more commonly needed and less often donated. Pull-ups are also a great option. After you complete your registration online, bring your diapers to check-in on race day.
T-shirts will be available to order at the time of registration at cost, for $15 each. Registration for the race will be open until 6 pm the day before the Saturday race; T-Shirt orders will close on November 15th. In-person race registration and check-in will take place at the race staging area from 7:15 to 7:45 on Saturday morning. Just bring your diapers and get ready to race!
Beneficiary: The Diaper Dash 5K Diaper Drive benefits White County 100 Families. 100 Families partners with community services to move clients from crisis to career, providing assistance in 13 areas of need including parenting, legal, housing, employment, mental health, transportation, and medical/dental health. The goal of the Diaper Dash is to provide 40 families receiving services from 100 Families with 50% of their diaper needs for the year. This is estimated to alleviate the most dire 10% of our community’s diaper need. It isn’t everything but it’s a start.
