“The days here are quiet…”
(Defending the Chattahoochee: A School of the Sailor.)
Hosted by the Chattahoochee River Squadron Living History Detachment.
Mark your calendars for a full fledged Confederate Naval living history event at the NCWNM!
December 6th, 2025.
Overnight camping on the 5th and 6th, is highly encouraged.
Expect drilling on and multiple firings of the original, 6.4 Brooke Rifle and drilling on and firing of an original 12 pound boat howitzer.
Infantry and skirmish drill, to be expected, as well.
This event, wouldn’t be possible without the support of the NCWNM and our sister unit, the Savannah River Squadron.
Authenticity guidelines:
(Ship’s Company, Gunboat Chattahoochee.)
Quarters: Tent flys, A-Frame and Wall Tents. (Tables and chairs are encouraged, for this garrison/shore station environment.)
Mess Kit: Utensils, plate, cup, canteen, haversack. (Of Confederate manufacture.)
Long Arms: 1842 Springfield, Austrian Lorenz, Enfield Rifle or Rifle musket.(Alternative long arms will be considered, with inquiry.)
Cutlass: M1832 short sword, M1841 cutlass, or Confederate manufactured blade.
Revolver: Colt or Confederate copy, with naval holster.
Accouterments: Black leather or painted canvas, worn on belt. (Confederate manufactured preferred.)
Headwear: Dark blue flat cap. (Mandatory)
Trousers: Grey woolen naval or army jean cloth trousers or dark blue naval trousers.
Overshirt: Dark blue or grey woolen flannel.
Frock/Jumper: Grey woolen or jean cloth, with white collar and cuff.
Undershirt: Flannel or cotton; blue or white.
Outerwear: Plain grey woolen or jean cloth army jacket; dark blue or grey naval short jacket.
Additional equipment: Proper blankets, cots, palliasses, sea bags, ditty bags, lanterns, etc; are all highly encouraged.
