The Dancing Plague

The Dancing Plague is a satirical comedy inspired by the infamous mass hysteria of 1518, when dozens of people quite literally danced themselves into a frenzy. While this play is by no means a primary source (please don’t cite it in your history thesis), it is a delightfully irreverent romp through the past—one that draws unexpected parallels to the present and throws in a dash of romance for good measure. Written by the outrageously decorated playwright Hannah Ponturo—winner of 49 Tonys and 52 Academy Awards, somehow—she is beyond excited to share this historical fever dream with the community.
