The Cottle Brothers Dixieland All-star Band / Band Mawr Llawn Sêr Dixieland y Brodyr Cottle
Ocean Room, National Waterfront Museum
Join The Cottle Brothers with an all-star band for a special performance going back to their musical roots. You’ll relish their musical trip back to Bourbon Street, with a nod to some of the great New Orleans, Dixieland style bands.
The Cottle Brothers were born into a musical and theatrical family living in Mumbles and started largely as a magic and comedy act, gradually evolving into a musical act as each of three brothers developed their musical skills. A big fan of traditional jazz music, their father directed the boys to take-up instruments necessary to form a trad jazz band. Since those early days, each brother has made a career performing, recording and arranging music at the highest level.
Together with their all-star band assembled for this festival performance, The Cottle Brothers will travel musically from the early days of Louis Armstrong, Kid Ory, Bob Crosby with the likes of South Rampart Street Parade, Muskrat Ramble through to the popular Dixieland swing era of Sid Phillips and High Society, and right up to the British jazz explosion of the 1960s with Chris Barber and Acker Bilk.
The band features multi-talented pianist Richard West, an exponent of Fats Waller’s great piano style, and London-based jazz banjo star Simon Picton, who plays with numerous New Orleans style bands in the UK and Europe.
