Videl Leins is a proud staff sergeant with 16 years of Air Force service and named plaintiff in the Shilling v. United States federal lawsuit, challenging the constitutionality of the Trump administration ban on military service by transgender people. While the ban was initially blocked in March 2025 by the US District Court for Western District of Washington, the Supreme Court allowed it to take effect in May. The case is now pending ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
The policy currently remains in effect, threatening thousands of transgender service members who have served with honor and distinction, including the seven active-duty plaintiffs in the case who collectively have over 115 years of military service.
