The Copper Children with Freedom Movement & Special Guest Mike Wird are coming to Velvet Elk Lounge on April 12th. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and the show kicks off at 8:00 PM, all for $19 (fees included).

The Copper Children are a diverse blend of styles and influences that span from the choral sounds of American gospel music to the psychedelic acid jam fueled sounds of the 60s. Live, they take you into your heart space, conjuring the spirit of unity, freedom, silliness, and Love, with harmonies and rhythms that remind us of our shared humanity. The Copper Children have shared the stage with notable artists such as Jerry Garcia Band, The Flobots, Mike Love, Everyone Orchestra, Steel Pulse, Devotchka, BALTHVS, Marco Benevento, and many more. 

What's the Freedom Movement? Freedom Movement is the past and the future of hip hop! It’s a message of positivity and character development. Before hip hop became co-opted and turned into a hollow morally corrupt commercial object, it connected music to the soul of a people. It had purpose, sophistication, meaning, swag and innovation. Freedom Movement rejuvenated traditional hip hop with the freshest beats and the smoothest soulful rhymes and harmonies. This music embodies peace, love and funky riddems.

MIKE WIRD (like BIRD) has been actively cultivating community for over 2 decades as an Emcee, Deejay, B-boy & Hiphop Cultural Arts Ambassador, raising awareness about social, economic and ecological issues and their solutions. With highly provocative content, a potent stage presence and voice. He’s shared the stage with De La Soul, KRS-ONE, Pharoah Monch, Les Nubians, The Hieroglyphics and many more.
