About this Event

The Conversation We Put Off: Talking Grief & Estate Planning

Most of us want to talk about anything with the people we love. Anything except grief and loss.

We avoid it.

We don’t wait for a birth to prepare for a new life. Why, then, do we wait for a crisis to prepare for the end of one?

The truth is, most of us aren’t avoiding these conversations because we don’t care. We’re avoiding them because they are hard. Whether it’s the fear of confronting mortality, the embarrassment of feeling like your finances or assets aren't "perfectly" lined up, or the anxiety of trusting family dynamics—it is easier to lean on our own understanding than to seek professional support.

But silence has a cost. When we wait for a crisis, we leave our loved ones to navigate logistics, confusion, and grief during the worst week of their lives.

It is time to move past the denial and the "we'll get to it" mentality. This session is designed to help you find the language to start these conversations—long before a crisis makes the decisions for you and your family.

We are curating a safe, brave, and candid space to address the shame, the complexities, and the reality of planning, so you can stop putting it off and start finding peace of mind.

On Saturday, October 3, we’re having that conversation out loud.

Dr. Shatiea Blount, LCSW-C, Founder of Eye In Me, LLC (EIM), will moderate a panel discussion featuring Kevin Carter, LCSW-C, Senior Grief Therapist at EIM, and Michen Tah Fraser, Esq., Founder and Founding Attorney of Tah Law LLC. The session will examine the essential emotional and practical preparation required prior to executing legal estate planning. This initiative seeks to integrate the complementary disciplines of grief support and estate planning into a single comprehensive seminar. Grief and estate planning belong in the same room, and for one afternoon, they will be.
You’ll leave with:

• Language for starting this conversation with a parent, a spouse, or an adult child
• A clear picture of what happens in Maryland when there’s no plan
• An understanding of why avoidance is a grief response, not a character flaw
• Time for your estate planning questions
Bring the person you’ve been meaning to have this conversation with.
Presented by Eye In Me, LLC and Tah Law LLC. This program is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal or clinical advice, and does not create an attorney-client or therapeutic relationship. Michen M. Tah Fraser, Esq. is licensed to practice law in Maryland. Tah Law LLC, 1451 Rockville Pike, Suite 250, Rockville, MD 20852.
