The Comedic Impulse: One Week Acting Intensive July 27 - July 31
About this Event
Develop the instincts that make comedy feel effortless. Spend a week exploring rhythm, specificity, physicality, and bold character choices through scene work, acting exercises, improvisation, rehearsal, and on-camera classes. Throughout the intensive, you'll discover how truthful behavior, commitment, and listening create comedy that works across both stage and screen.
Working with both contemporary and classic comedy, you'll strengthen your understanding of comedic timing, character, physical comedy, and comedic structure while building greater confidence making bold choices. Acting exercises and improvisation throughout the week are designed to free you up, deepen your listening, and help you discover the spontaneity that makes comedy come alive, while on-camera sessions explore how those same principles translate from the stage to the lens.
Throughout the week, you'll:
Rehearse and develop comedic scenes.
Apply your work on camera and explore how comedy translates between stage and screen.
Explore comedic rhythm, pacing, and timing.
Develop stronger comedic instincts through acting exercises and improvisation.
Work with character archetypes, physical comedy, and expressive performance.
Prepare work for performance in the Comedy to Tragedy Showcase.
The intensive concludes with a live performance in Act I of the Comedy to Tragedy Showcase, giving you the opportunity to share the work you've developed throughout the week with an audience. You'll leave with stronger comedic instincts, greater physical freedom, a deeper understanding of comedic structure, and practical experience adapting your work for both live performance and the camera.
