Keynote speakers
Alison Kitson: Teaching history at a time of planetary crisis

How can history teachers help young people across all age groups understand the environmental crisis and reconnect with the natural world? This keynote will offer insights and practical suggestions, drawing on the work of UCL's Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education and the teachers who are pioneering work in this area.

Dr Alison Kitson is Associate Professor of Education at University College London and Programme Director of UCL's Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education. She has been involved in history education for many years in different roles and is a former Deputy President of the Historical Association.

Dan Lyndon-Cohen: Disrupting the Narrative: practical ways to decolonise the history classroom

This main focus will be on practical ways to decolonise the curriculum, focusing on the Tape Letters unit of work that Dan wrote which was based on an oral history archive about the experiences of the British-Pakistani community 1960s-1990s.

Dan Lyndon-Cohen is the Director of the Schools History Project and Lead Practitioner for Humanities at Park View School in Tottenham. He has over 25 years’ experience teaching history in schools across London. He has also published many books and articles.
