The CFDA Curates FashionSpeak Fridays: An Evening with Nicole Miller

The National Arts Club and its Fashion Committee, in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America present Nicole Miller in conversation with Marc Karimzadeh for an exploration of her illustrious career.

Nicole Miller’s eye for fashion developed at an early age while leafing through her mother’s French fashion magazines. Years later, she honed in on her skills by studying as a designer at both the Rhode Island School of Design and Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris. After graduating, Miller interned with dress designer Clovis Ruffin in New York City. From there, Miller began working as head designer at dress manufacturer, P.J. Walsh, hired by the company’s president, Bud Konheim. In 1982, Konheim started the eponymous company with Miller. Nicole Miller became a household name in 1991 when top supermodels Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, and Yasmin Le Bon all walked in her very first fashion show. Over the past 40+ years, her distinctive style has earned her a loyal following among consumers, celebrities, and industry professionals. In 2019 she became one of the longest showing designers at New York Fashion Week. She has been the recipient of numerous industry awards, including the Legend of Fashion Award (2006), Fashion Group International Lifetime Achievement Award (2012), and the Visionary Woman Award (2014).

Marc Karimzadeh is the Editorial and Communications Director for the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Prior to joining the CFDA in 2015, he spent 15 years as a fashion editor and critic at Women’s Wear Daily and W Magazine, covering New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks and writing features on designers and fashion industry leaders. The Council of Fashion Designers of America is a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1962 with a membership of 474 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers.
