Don your finest threads as the Canford Cliffs Sartorial Splash 2025 comes to one of our favourite coastal villages on Saturday 23rd August, celebrating timeless style, social charm and the art of the unhurried promenade.
This leisurely social gathering invites dapper gentlemen and elegant ladies to revel in the golden age of fashion – from the refined silhouettes of the 1920s to the sharp cuts and curves of the 1960s. Think crisp linen suits, silk cravats, day dresses, gloves, brogues, hats, pocket watches, pearls, parasols and poise.
No jeans, no trainers, no exceptions – this is an event for those who dress to impress and take their style as seriously as their conversation.
To sum it up: It’s a café crawl in suits and hats!
The Route
The Splash begins and ends at Sustudio, where participants will gather, admire each other's ensembles and enjoy a gentle introduction. We shall take a leisurely stroll around the village and then saunter down Canford Cliffs Chine to the beach.
Therefore, for the slightly more adventurous, please bring your Edwardian or Victorian swimming costume so that you are stylishly equipped to throw yourselves into the waves.
En route, expect spontaneous photo opportunities, snippets of vintage music and spirited conversations with fellow Splashers.
The Splash will conclude back at Sustudio, where a final toast to elegance may be raised.
(Should the weather prove inclement on the day, we shall take up residence in one of the area’s many excellent hostelries).
Who Can Attend?
Anyone with a flair for vintage fashion and a love of leisurely strolling is welcome.
While there is no fee to attend, participation requires appropriate attire and you will be expected to buy a drink (and a snack?) at Sustudio.
Styles should reference the 1920s–1960s. This is not a costume party – it is a celebration of sartorial splendour.
Whether you favour Gatsby-era glamour, mid-century refinement or Hollywood chic, this is your chance to step into another era and on to the stylish social stage.
Who Are We?
A rag-tag bunch of gentlefolk (sometimes known as The Dorset Dandies) who stroll the streets from café to café, bringing confused smiles to the local townsfolk and demonstrating the lost art of dressing well to sartorially challenged passers-by in jeans and trainers.
What Is The Point? What Is It For?
It’s ‘just for the chortle’ but it’s also good to support the local café culture.
Who Are The Organisers?
The Other Chaps, an eccentric musical duo, pioneers of the ‘chap rock’ sound (spiffing riffery – classic rock and blues in a 1940s ‘chap’ style).
