About this Event
Calling all authors! Are you passionate about writing but somewhat baffled by the complex publishing industry? Do you know how to write a great story but are unsure how to transform your creativity into a sustainable career? No fear, The Society of Authors are here to help as they return with their sold-out session from last year’s Black British Book Festival.
During this workshop, SoA Contracts Advisors will take you through the basics of making a living and navigating the ever-evolving publishing landscape: get the lowdown on agents, publishing offers and contracts; learn how to protect your copyright and negotiate the best deal; find out where to go for grants, funding and support; and set your sights on achieving that portfolio career. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire the knowledge and inspiration needed to thrive as a professional writer.
The Society of Authors is the leading trade union in the UK, representing a diverse community of writers, illustrators, and literary translators at all stages of their professional journeys. With over a century of experience, they provide expert guidance to individuals and advocate for the collective interests of authors within the industry. These events are part of the free program at the Black British Book Festival. We provide a range of free activities to ensure our festival is accessible to all.
