ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Queensland Folk Youth Orchestra
The Queensland Youth Folk Orchestra (QYFO) is a gathering of young folk musicians and singers (13-30yrs) from across Queensland meeting to learn, teach each other and perform traditional and contemporary folk songs and tunes from Australia and beyond. Through a tapestry of workshops, sessions and performances led by Emma Nixon, QFYO provides opportunities for young musicians to learn a variety of musical styles in a space dedicated to development, friendship, inspiration and sharing.
East of West
ARIA-nominated trio East of West’s music draws from the rich cultural melting pot of the Balkans and Mediterranean, spicing it with a hint of contemporary European jazz. Comprising Bosnian-born composer Goran Gajić on double bass, Philip Griffin on oud and laouto, and Malindi Morris on percussion, East of West explores the borderlands through their intricate compositions and improvisations.
