THE BRO-TEST - Luke’s First Day: Leg Day

When Andrew Tate's fans wanted to show support for him, they did push-ups outside his prison.
We thought we'd borrow the format.
On Tuesday 8 September, the women of Perth are meeting outside the steps of Parliament House for a workout.
Bring your dumbbells (some will be provided), bring your yoga mat, bring your worst gym singlet. Push-ups aren't mandatory. We will be doing squats, lunges and a great many burpees. It will be silly. It will be loud. It will be filmed. Bad form encouraged.
Here is why.
WA has just recorded its highest number of reported family violence offences in a decade. The Mandurah police district, which covers Rockingham, Kwinana, Baldivis and Mandurah, had more reports than anywhere else in metropolitan Perth: 3,924 in a single year, about eleven every day. The refuges in that district are full. WA's Police Commissioner has said up to 70 per cent of women never report at all.
That district is the electorate of Secret Harbour.
Last month, asked on national television about his party leader's description of domestic violence as a "two-way street", the incoming member for Secret Harbour said it wasn't something anyone in the community was talking about. That it's "just not really an issue down here."
Nobody corrected him. Not the Premier, the leader of the Opposition – or any party leader in this state.
So on Tuesday we are taking a stand.
WHAT TO BRING
Water, sunscreen, a sign and a friend. Every fitness level is welcome, including none. You can do this seated. You can do this standing still holding a sign while everyone else does burpees. Showing up is the rep that counts.
WHAT THIS IS
Peaceful. Legal. Funny. Forty-five minutes. Women-led and open to anyone who identifies as a woman or femme in any way. Allies genuinely welcome, and we'll have a job for you.
WHAT THIS ISN'T
Affiliated with any political party. We have invited MPs from every party except One Nation and we will thank the ones who come, whoever they are. We are women united and we celebrate and respect our differences, whilst condemning men's violence against women, femicide, misogyny and men's silence and failure to act.
WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR
Every member of the WA Parliament to publicly reject the claim that men's violence against women and children is a "two-way street".
ACCESSIBILITY
Step-free access to the assembly point. Message the page with any access needed and we will sort it.
MEDIA
Photographers and press are welcome and encouraged.
If this is close to home for you, look after yourself first.
