Overall Conference Description:
This training provides clinicians with the knowledge and skills needed to assess individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and determine the most appropriate level of care. Participants will learn how to balance safety, clinical need, patient preferences, and available community resources while applying evidence-based risk assessment and recovery-oriented principles.
Objectives:
Attendees will be able to:
1. Describe the continuum of behavioral health crisis/urgent/routine services.
2. Identify factors that influence level-of-care decisions, including suicide risk, homicidal risk, psychosis, substance use, medical concerns, functional impairment, and protective factors.
3. Orient to options for involuntary commitment including Section 12 and 35
4. Learn some options to communicate effectively with community providers, emergency departments, and law enforcement.
