About this Event
In celebration of LA Climate Week and National Poetry Month, step into a sanctuary for Black voices to be heard, uplifted, and deeply felt as we turn to art to imagine and build more sustainable futures for Black communities.
This immersive night features live poetry, galactic soundscapes, and healing activities shaped by the words of young Black poets affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire. Participants will be invited into relationship with nature and sonic healing while experiencing an exclusive live debut of the Black Energy Capsule poetry album, spotlighting young poets’ visions of restoration for Black DENA.
Join us at Octavia’s Bookshelf (Pasadena’s first independent bookstore highlighting BIPOC artists) as we channel empowerment energy and collective urgency toward rebuilding Black communities affected by the climate crisis and cultivating a more sustainable world.
SPOTLIGHTED EXPERIENCES:
Open Mic – Artivists, poets, and storytellers are invited to enhance the vibes through powerful performances. Send an email to [email protected] with your artist name and the title of your anticipated performance piece.
Black Energy Vibe Enhancer – Galactic synths fused with field recordings from Black-led farmlands, crafting immersive soundscapes that ground listeners in the land while opening portals to climate justice, memory, and collective healing.
Live Performances – Experience artivists Jenari Mitchell and Jordan Wright perform debut pieces from the forthcoming Black Energy Capsule poetry album.
Black Energy Seed Capsules – Design your own seed capsule, combining physical seeds, fresh lavender, Black sage, and written intentions to plant visions for the future, nurture Black climate and environmental justice dreams, and commit to the actions that will help them grow.
