The Black Altar Project presents: The Unfestival
About this Event
Some summers ask a lot of you. The Unfestival asks nothing.
On Sunday, August 23, Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park becomes a slower kind of gathering, a place to sit, listen, rest, and be among people without having to perform being among them.
Live music plays across the afternoon, one performer at a time, in the round. There's no competing for your attention and no schedule to track. The music moves at the pace of the day.
Mystic practitioners offer free one-on-one sessions, quiet exchanges made for one person at a time. And set into the amphitheater is an altar installation built for the day: something to notice, sit near, or add to.
The whole afternoon is built around rest and restoration. There's nowhere to be but here, and nothing to do but slow down.
Bring a blanket, bring a friend, bring nobody. Stay for one song or the whole afternoon. Nothing is asked of you.
Free and open to all.
RSVP so we can tell you when the day gets closer.
Getting there
The park has four entrances: S Washington St, S Jackson St, S Main St, and 22nd Ave S. Any of them will get you in. S Washington St lands you closest to where everything happens, but if you're coming by bus, use whichever entrance is nearest your stop. It's about two blocks east of Pratt Park.
By light rail: The 2 Line stops at Judkins Park Station, about a 15 minute walk south.
By bus: Routes 4, 7, 8, 14, and 48 serve the area.
Parking: Free street parking on the surrounding residential blocks.
