The Big Twang is a new book capturing the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival’s rich history through photography and stories, featuring hundreds of images from Jay Blakesburg and other distinguished photographers. It offers a vivid look into how the free festival—founded as a gift to the city by philanthropist Warren Hellman—grew into a cultural phenomenon drawing hundreds of thousands to Golden Gate Park each fall.
The event will feature a conversation with:
Tricia Hellman Gibbs, daughter of Warren Hellman
Frances Dinkelspiel, journalist and author of Towers of Gold: How One Jewish Immigrant Named Isaias Hellman Created California
Sarah Davis, Creative Director of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass
It will include a reception, live music (including songs written by Warren Hellman), and candle-lighting with Rabbi Lawrence Kushner to welcome Hanukkah.
We hope to see you there!
