About this Event
The Big Sea explores the hidden environmental cost of neoprene, the material used in wetsuits and many performance textiles. Following the journey from chemical production to ocean use, the film reveals how the manufacture of neoprene impacts local waters, ecosystems and communities.
Through the voices of surfers, scientists and activists, the film asks an important question: how can we enjoy the ocean while protecting it?
Part investigation and part call for awareness, The Big Sea shines a light on a material most of us rarely think about, but which connects sport, fashion and environmental responsibility in unexpected ways.
If Woman Grows Jeans shows what a better textile future could look like, The Big Sea reveals one of the industry’s more troubling realities.
This powerful documentary investigates neoprene, the material used in wetsuits and many performance textiles, uncovering the environmental and human impacts hidden behind a product closely associated with ocean culture.
Following surfers, scientists and campaigners, The Big Sea explores the links between sport, industry and pollution, asking difficult questions about how materials are made and what they leave behind.
