KENNETH WEISS opens the Berkshire Bach Harpsichord Festival with a complete performance of Bach’s ‘Goldberg’ Variations at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Stockbridge. Join BBS for a rare live performance of this masterpiece by one of the world’s most respected harpsichordists and hear the complete composition that reportedly was written for the entertainment of a court diplomat who suffered from insomnia. The astonishingly diverse work includes an Aria and 30 Variations that run the gamut of artistic expression. Kenneth Weiss presents the elegance of the Variations in a lyrical and contemplative reading that transforms the way we hear one of Bach’s most popular works for keyboard. A student of Gustav Leonhardt and former assistant to William Christie at Les Arts Florissants, Kenneth Weiss has taught at the Juilliard School and the Haute Ècole de Musique de Geneva, and since 1996 has been Professor of Chamber Music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
On September 20, surrender to the beauty of the 'Goldberg' Variations as Kenneth Weiss transports us into an exquisite soundscape and wraps us in the magic of Bach’s artistry--a truly spellbinding experience!
