After a couple of quieter summer events, we’re back in full swing this September – with the raffle returning thanks to some recent generous donations, and an inspiring guest speaker at 9pm.
We’re delighted to welcome Valerie Giannandrea McKeag, a highly accomplished artist and illustrator whose career spans over three decades. Valerie graduated with a 1st Class BA Honours Degree in Illustration from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, in 1985, and spent 12 years in London as a freelance illustrator for clients in advertising and publishing.
In 1997, she moved to Belfast, retrained as a teacher, and is now Head of Art at Ashfield Girls’ High School. Alongside teaching, she has developed an evocative landscape painting style that beautifully captures the shifting moods of light, weather, and the changing seasons. Since 2016, living in the Mourne Mountains has provided her with endless inspiration, with both the Mourne and Antrim coasts influencing her work. Valerie also runs art classes from her home, specialising in acrylic painting, ink painting, and printmaking.
