On March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dixon High School auditorium, Dixon historian Tom Wadsworth will present “The Battle for the Castle: The Story Behind Building Dixon’s High School in 1929.” This special public event is hosted by the Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society.
Over the last hundred years, thousands of DHS graduates have treasured memories of attending Dixon’s “castle” high school, but few are aware of the struggle to build the school and its unique features. This one-hour presentation utilizes the auditorium’s large screen and includes several rare photos and little-known details behind building Dixon’s iconic high school.
Tom Wadsworth is a nationally known speaker and writer who holds two master’s degrees and a PhD. Since 2023, he has been a local history columnist for the Dixon Telegraph and the Sterling Gazette. In recent years, dozens of audiences throughout northwestern Illinois have praised his local history presentations.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
