About this Event
The Backyard Series returns to the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden in 2024!
Bushfoods and BirdsPresented by Karen Shaw from
Cultivating a native garden can mean more than just caring for and enjoying well-adapted, gorgeous plants - it can be an extension of your pantry too! Growing bushfoods is both fun, healthy and convenient.
In this workshop, Karen will share how you can create an abundant garden full of local tastes. This will include introducing some of her favourite plants, as well as tips on when and how to use the foliage, flowers, nuts, fruits and flavours. Many native species also have attributes that make them an attractive option to use as groundcovers, edging and privacy screens. Seasonal surpluses mean a bushfood garden is good for you and local birds (as food source and nesting sites).

Karen Shaw is a women obsessed with native plants – she grows them, eats and drinks them, paints and prints with them! Co-founder of Forest Heart ecoNursery and Brush Turkey Enterprises, Karen enjoys sharing her more than 25yr love affair of native plants with children and adults alike.
