Author David Gibson will offer a talk on his recently published biography, A Force for Nature: Paul Schaefer's Adirondack Coalitions (Syracuse University Press, 2025). Schaefer was a twentieth-century conservationist whose grassroots coalitions helped safeguard the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserve and shaped New York's "forever wild" legacy. Gibson — managing partner of Adirondack Wild: Friends of the Forest Preserve, the organization Schaefer founded in 1945 — draws on Schaefer's own writings, family narratives, and interviews to tell the story of an extraordinary life in advocacy.
