About this Event
Curious about turning your creative practice into work for film and television?
Join us for an inside look at the world of professional prop making, where woodworking, sculpting, painting, metalwork, and fabrication come together to create the objects you see on screen. Lead Prop Builder, Shannon Chappell, will introduce you to the tools, techniques, and mindset behind building for film and TV. His work spans movies and TV shows such as: Ghostbusters Afterlife, Fargo, Fraggle Rock, The Last of Us, to name a few.
Designed for artists and makers, this session will show you how your existing skills can translate into the props department, and what it actually takes to get there.
During the open house, you’ll:
- Explore real props and materials used in film and TV
- Learn how scripts are interpreted into physical objects
- See how different disciplines (wood, paint, textiles, metal) come together in prop making
- Get a realistic overview of working in the industry
- Ask questions about pathways into prop building
You’ll also get a first look at our Props Building Course, where you can take the next step, developing hands-on skills, building portfolio pieces, and learning how to work to production standards.
Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, fabricator, or multidisciplinary maker, this is an opportunity to expand your practice into storytelling for the screen.
Come see how your skills can evolve and where they could take you.
