The Art of PAPERMAKING
About this Event
Join us for a two part paper-making course, where you will learn all the basics of papermaking - from cotton and rice fiber to a final cast piece of artwork for painting and varnishing.
July 22, 6pm - 9pm
July 29, 6pm - 9pm
Joan's extensive papermaking knowledge and practice makes her an invaluable teacher and guide for your papermaking journey. In this course, she will be instructing in the best fibers to use, how to source them, the process of creating a fiber/water 'slurry', using a screen to extract the fiber and process it into sheets of handmade paper.
You will have the opportunity to cast, shape and get direction on how to decorate this paper.
Joan will be joined by Susannah White, currently completing her Masters in Fine Art, who will demonstrate how to make and work with pigments from different sources in nature.
After studying at Capilano University Studio Art Program (1990, North Vancouver) and Montague LeBlanc School of Art (1988, France), Joan works with strong form and color with handmade, acid-free natural fibre paper from very small to very large colourful artworks.
