About this Event
We all eat. We all need to eat. The way we accomplish the tasks of planning, preparing, and eating food can either be fulfilling and nourishing, or full of somatic and emotional distress.
This is an introductory workshop that will provide foundational information regarding a healthy emotional relationship with food, and explore how to treat disordered eating with practical clinical interventions.
The presenter will utilize lecture, experiential exercises (such as mixing and baking your own sourdough bread), and group discussion to support the learning objectives and facilitate learning.
In addition, there will be opportunity for participants to engage in an experiential learning opportunity of mixing and baking Sourdough Artisan Bread. This in-vivo practice of food preparation is designed to support the practice of the art of nourishing self-care, mindful eating practices, while actively encouraging participants to explore their own 'relationship' with food.
(Bonus: you get to take home your delicious, homemade sourdough bread + starter!)
*As a licensed professional counselor, we are bound to our own scope of professional practice; therefore, this is in no way a substitute for any nutritional counseling or meal planning that a registered dietitian would do. Instead, this training focuses on the mental health aspects of supporting clients in their emotional relationship with, and self-care act of, feeding themselves with self-kindness, radical acceptance, compassion, forethought, mindfulness and intentionality.
Upon completion, participant will be able to:
- Define a healthy relationship with food
- Distinguish between disordered & non-disordered eating behaviors
- Describe at least six clinical skills for breaking disordered eating habits and poor self-care cycles.
- Gain experiential practice around these skills (meal planning, mindfulness) during food preparation with Sourdough Bread!
