The Art of Layering with Terry Lynn
Join Woodcuts next Studio Series featuring nationally acclaimed artist Terry Lynn for an engaging, hands-on workshop exploring the connections between art, family history, Southern traditions, and cultural memory.
Inspired by the rich visual heritage of the American South, participants will create their own mixed-media artwork using acrylic paint, fabric, newspaper, and photocopied imagery. Historical images of Black churches, church fans, Sunday hats, and other familiar cultural symbols will serve as inspiration for personal storytelling.
Participants are encouraged to bring a photocopy of a meaningful family photograph to incorporate into their artwork, although this is entirely optional. Additional imagery and collage materials will be provided.
Through layering, painting, and collage, Terry will guide participants in transforming everyday images and materials into expressive works of art that celebrate identity, heritage, and the stories that connect generations.
