The Handstitch Siddi Quilting workshop introduces participants to the art of Siddi quilting, a traditional craft practiced by the Siddi women in India, who have maintained their African heritage even after migration. The workshop not only showcases this unique cultural art form but also reflects on community, heritage, and sustainability. The 1.5-hour session provides a creative, interactive space where participants learn the basics of hand-stitch mini-quilting while exploring the historical and cultural significance of the craft. It’s a great way to engage the community and celebrate women’s creativity and resilience.
About the Presenter: is an Upcycle Textile Artist, Consultant and Regenerative Fashion Instructor who transforms discarded natural materials into clothing and textile art, focusing on waste mitigation and regenerative design. Her work explores the life cycle of clothing, the well-being of its wearer, African-diasporic traditions of sustainability and the inequities of extractive textile systems on communities historically exploited without compensation.
