A weekend training course on the art of collaborative vocal improvisation.

The artists will combine specific techniques, musicianship, and vocal explorations for improvisational practice, with a focus on duo practice, incorporating elements of circlesinging and other forms of spontaneous collective singing.

Meet the teachers:

Guillermo Rozenthuler is a vocal artist and facilitator from Argentina based in the UK. His work is based around the art forms of collaborative vocal improvisation and circlesinging, both influenced by a cappella traditions from around the world, as well as Jazz and Afro-Latin music. Jaka Škapin is a Slovenian performer, composer and vocal improviser. His music is marked by his choral background, jazz training and Slavic heritage, exploring the intersection of ancestry, embodiment, nature connection and musicianship. As a collective vocal improvisation and facilitator he teaches internationally, is a member of the UK Vocal Improv Collective and the current producer for The Well: Global Vocal Improvisation Network. What to expectDrawing from their ongoing research and duo performance practice, the artists will introduce collaborative musical approaches and creative structures designed to support both deep connection and expansive vocal freedom.

Exploratory highlights for practice:

•⁠ ⁠Using structured vocal elements as another gateway into music

•⁠ ⁠Consonance and dissonance

•⁠ ⁠Creativity in the use of invented language and the voice as an instrument

•⁠ ⁠Freer approaches to rhythm, including some polymeters and polyrhythms

•⁠ ⁠Developing patterns in different directions to create more flexible supporting parts

For larger ensemble work:

•⁠ ⁠Voice and body as instruments that express and maintain rhythm, melody, structure, and emotion

•⁠ ⁠Developing musical and interpersonal skills in the service of collective well-being

•⁠ ⁠Invented language and the unifying and transformative power of the word

•⁠ ⁠Coming together in the here and now, as well as remembering, amplifying, and honoring our musical and cultural roots

The experience is open to professional and amateur singers.

Captivating for experienced singers and welcoming for those who practice vocal improvisation and want to deepen their knowledge.

The workshop will be in english with the possibility to have an italian translation.

This worskhop is open to Muvola APS members only.

If you do not yet have Muvola membership, you may join Muvola APS for a €10 membership fee.
