About this Event
Arts Out East are proud to present a series highlighting artists that share connections to East Auckland area.
Each invited artist will talk to their work and their practice in their chosen local café. This free series aims to break the formal nature of artist talks and support local business. All we ask while you sit and hear from the artist, you buy a hot or cold drink to support the chosen local business. Think good vibes, great art chat and supporting local with a nice beverage.
Introducing Samantha Cheng! Smanatha works across installation, sculpture and video to seek out and devise humourous encounters in art making. In her practice these are strategies to reconceive of failure as a generative space for making performative gestures that operate as an ongoing rehearsal for the real world. Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, she can often be found attempting ideas such as running into the sunset, taking holidays during 10-minute work breaks, and occasionally working on her postgraduate research. Previous exhibitions include Passengers (2023) which was held on the Westerneastern line of the Auckland Transport service as part of Rumpus (2023), Chez Derriere (Te Tuhi’s Parnell Project Space). She is part of the group exhibition Maximum Potential NOW, which is currently on at Blue Oyster Art Project Space and Back Room at Arts House Trust, Pah Homestead.
Limited spaces available. This is a free event, however, we will ask attendees to buy a hot drink at the chosen cafe.
