A regular asana practice is an expectation for students attending this class. You should be familiar with the basic sitting postures, restorative postures, inversions and savasana. Props will be used, and all ages & abilities are welcome.
Details:
Saturdays 7:30am - 8:30am
4 Week Series: August 8th, August 15th, August 22nd, August 29th. This registration is for all four weeks live via Zoom.
Pranayama taught in this series will include ujjayi, viloma I, viloma II, Anuloma without retention, Pratiloma without retention, Bhramari. You will also learn to sensitize the mind so that action and intelligence work skillfully together. You will cultivate awareness of how the breath and the body work together to focus the mind.
Benefits of pranayama may include:
~ Reduce anxiety/stress
~ Down-regulate your nervous system through conscious breathing
~ Learn to perceive the quality, length and breadth of the breath within the body
~ Regulate blood pressure
~ Increase energy
~ Remove fatigue
~ Generally experience a quieter, calmer or more balanced state of mind
Join us to discover this essential aspect on the path of Yoga.
"Though asana practice takes one's mind to peep inside the body, it is in pranayama that one begins to learn to withdraw the senses and mind from their external engagement. By this the awareness and energy are invested within. This is the opposite of what happens when you are having a hectic day at the office."
~ B.K.S Iyengar, Light on Life p. 99
"Often, pranayama is described as a breathing exercise. First of all, it is not an exercise at all and the breath is not exercised. By making all the adjustments, it is the nervous system which is disciplined so it takes the practitioner inward and shows us the inner path. It is a process of going inward towards the inner being."
~ Geeta S. Iyengar, 2018 Class Transcript
Pranayama brings us freedom.
"Freedom is awakening into a state of presence. Freedom arrives as we excavate the core of our Being and live in alignment with our spiritual heart. Despite our current circumstances and past conditioning, we are always free, in any moment, to live from our highest potential and to respond with wisdom, compassion, and love."
~ Peentz Dubble, 2026 Cultivating Freedom commentary
