About this Event

The Art of Being
Ancient Buddhist Wisdom for Presence, Simplicity and Everyday Life

There are countless books, podcasts and videos that promise to teach mindfulness and Buddhism.

Very few offer the opportunity to spend a day inside an authentic Tibetan Buddhist temple, learning directly from an ordained Buddhist nun whose life has been devoted to studying, practising and teaching the Buddha's wisdom.

That is what makes The Art of Being different.

Over two carefully curated days, you'll experience Buddhist philosophy where it is still taught and lived today. Guided by Ani Rinchen Khandro of the Tibetan Kagyu Lineage, you'll explore timeless teachings that continue to offer practical insight into the challenges of modern life, from stress and anxiety to purpose, relationships and the search for contentment.

Rather than listening to simplified interpretations, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, take part in discussion and learn from someone who has spent decades immersed in this tradition. Whether you have a long standing interest in Buddhism or are simply curious to understand its relevance today, you'll be welcomed into an environment designed for learning, reflection and open conversation.

The weekend has been thoughtfully designed to balance authentic teaching with experiences that encourage you to slow down, become more present and engage with your surroundings in a different way.

Your experience includes:

• A full day of Buddhist teachings inside Kagyu Samye Dzong, Edinburgh

• The opportunity to learn directly from Ani Rinchen Khandro, an ordained Buddhist nun in the Tibetan Kagyu Lineage

• Open discussion, reflection and the chance to ask your own questions

• An optional sunset yoga session on the beautiful sands of Portobello Beach

The Extraordinary in the Ordinary, a unique mindful photography workshop exploring awareness, perspective and the philosophy of seeing differently

• A visit to Samye Ling Monastery, the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery established in the West, where you'll have time to explore the temple, meditation rooms, gardens and peaceful surroundings at your own pace

More than simply a retreat, this is an opportunity to experience Buddhism within the setting where it continues to be practised, alongside people who have dedicated their lives to preserving and sharing these teachings.

If you've ever wanted to understand Buddhism beyond quotes, social media posts or meditation apps, this weekend offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from the source.

Whether you come seeking knowledge, clarity, inspiration or simply a weekend away from the pace of everyday life, you'll leave with practical insights, new perspectives and an experience that is difficult to find anywhere else.
