About this Event
Neli was born in the 70s in México City, before technology became a deep component of our modern societies and behaviors. She has been painting and creating art objects since she was a little girl, but never expressed herself as an artist; she and her art spent many years inside the "closet."
Neli has dedicated part of her life to exploring the changes that happen at the molecular level, in the DNA that drives evolution in all living beings. She holds a Ph.D., in Evolutionary Biology, which she uses to combine science and art to express changes at the deepest levels, showcasing both her chaotic and peaceful mind. This scientific background has profoundly influenced Neli's artistic approach. Incorporating science as a beautiful tool,
Neli uses it to understand phenomena that were once unknown or misunderstood. It is a true creative process because creating a test or experiment to explain or suggest the inexplicable requires a profound and interminable quest to put things together—to ultimately explain change.
Neli has always been passionate about understanding how changes happen and shape everything. Using herself as the ultimate experiment to understand change, Neli, as a Trans Woman, has had the opportunity to understand changes on a deep level. This need to understand change drives her to explain how changes feel and how we can accept them. Her art expresses changes from busy and chaotic to those that drive a life capable of expressing love, producing emotions, and raising questions about oneself in terms of how changes shape everything, including harmony. Her art invites everyone to reflect on how change influences us all.
This series of paintings, named "CHisCA," aims to represent the changes that can occur in anyone's life. Changes can be notable, simple, or complex, and they occur at different speeds over time. Some changes are easier to understand, while others are not because they are in the subconscious mind. Neli aims to explore and express the changes occurring in the subconscious mind.
