About this Event
Learn how coffee’s flavors come to life in the roaster at a beginner-friendly workshop led by Head Roaster Russell Hanley in Pawtucket.
The coffee roasting process has long been cloaked in mystery and intrigue, with the secrets of the trade closely guarded by craftspeople who toil behind the big steel drums of coffee roasting machines. How does the roasting process unlock coffee’s beautiful rainbow of flavors and aromas? What control does the coffee roaster have over the complex chemical reactions that unfold in these steel drums? Join us at our roastery in Pawtucket to learn about coffee roasting with guest instructor and Borealis Head Roaster Russell Hanley.
Participants will learn about the stages of a coffee roast and the unique mechanics of the Loring machine on which we roast all of our coffee. We will also have an opportunity to taste a variety of roast samples to better appreciate the impact of roasting on the final cup. This workshop is a beginner-level introduction to the art and science of roasting open to all coffee enthusiasts.
