Join us to celebrate Connecticut's agricultural and architectural heritage on our tour of historic barns this autumn!
A charter bus will take you through the idyllic towns of Southbury and Woodbury to see a great selection of these beautiful buildings, led by our guide who will discuss the variety found within our regional historic barn architecture as well as the people and local histories connected to these places.
Along the way, you'll also stop at several historic barns which date to the 19th century for interior tours! All have been lovingly restored and preserved, and some have even evolved and adapted for interesting contemporary uses. Interior stops include a Greek Revival New England-style barn once used as a workshop and chapel, an English Bank-style barn in Woodbury that now sleeps out-of-town guests instead of livestock, and more. The Southbury Historical Society will also be welcoming us into their circa 1820 Ludorf Barn—not often open to the public, it functioned as an active barn into the 21st century!
Histoury is proud to present this tour to also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the nonprofit Preservation Connecticut and commemorate their achievements in protecting the state's historic barns and countless other places. Happy Birthday to our partners in preservation!
