Historic Rock Ford's Untold Stories of the American Revolution Lecture Series welcomes Matthew Kalos as he presents “The Archaeology and Memory of the Paoli Battlefield.”
This lecture will focus on the archaeology of the Paoli battlefield and how it is remembered throughout history. In addition to covering the history of the battle, Dr. Kalos will discuss how memory is created in different historical moments, and how archaeologists can approach the production and maintenance of mnemonic practices. Such ideas are especially important as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary.
This presentation will begin at 6:30 PM in the Langmuir Education Room on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. It will be approximately 1.5 hours in length. Please note that admission is for the lecture and does not include the Snyder Gallery.
About the Presenter: Dr. Matthew A. Kalos is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Human Geography at Brookdale Community College. Additionally, he is a research fellow for the Center for Integrative Research in Conflict Archaeology (CIRCA). He earned his PhD in Anthropology from Temple University, where he wrote his dissertation on the Battle of Paoli located in Malvern, PA. The focus of his research centers on the interpretation of memory and mnemonic landscapes associated with the American Revolution. Dr. Kalos worked for the National Park Service at Valley Forge National Historical Park for six years, where he led public archaeology programs.
