In 2010-11 Middle Eastern capitalism was shaken to its core. A wave of revolution and revolt - the Arab Spring - toppled dictator after dictator. The heroism of the students, the workers and the poor, who rose up to fight for a new society, transformed world politics. Though the revolutions were eventually defeated, they remain an inspiration.
Such inspiration is particularly relevant as Israel’s war on the Palestinians continues in all its horror. The revolutionary power of the Arab and Iranian workers and oppressed has the potential to win Palestinian liberation.
Hossam el-Hamalawy is a socialist activist and journalist who participated in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. He will be presenting this can’t miss talk on the connection between Arab revolution and Palestinian freedom.
