This evening is a journey into tribal wisdom through the lens of an old myth told to the people while the rhythm of the drum calls to the elements. We humans have been gathering for millennia to hear the guidance of the ancestors to help navigate the present. With this unique style of facilitation, we will travel together to find the many small treasures that combine into a "moment of community."
The storehouse of story is one kind of renewable wealth to help us in times of turmoil and uncertainty. The evening opens with an introduction to the mythopoetic tradition of StoryCarrying.
You won't find the "moral of the story"—old myth can give a message individual to each listener. The old stories can be surprisingly relevant to the modern world. It seems that our ancestors also grappled with issues of turmoil, belonging, purpose, grief, and their ancestors!
Bring with you an "intention" for the evening—in this way of working with the story, that means to say:"IF I could hear some wisdom from the story about this issue, or challenge, or desire, in my life, I would be willing to hear it."
It simply means showing up with an open mind and heart. Finding a small next best step might be the most valuable result. It is not an intellectual process of "understanding the meaning of the story." The evening is in itself a small ritual of working with story in a way you might not have seen coming.
Remembering, Resuscitating & Redeeming—
A wild reply to troubled times
Our ancestors lived in close proximity to nature and each other, and always within the presence of myth and ritual to bring the perspective of the timeless to the urgent moment at hand. We cannot escape the effects of a world in turmoil, and perhaps that was always the situation. But what makes it harder is that the old steadying guidance from traditional wisdom is fragmented and even difficult to find.
Myths hold secret codes of navigation. Story is an active and interactive remembering. Deep consideration includes listening, conversation, even dancing and singing of the old story. Wild remembering is a force that calls the resuscitating waters of life and death from where they live in the realms of imagination and dreams. This is the way that cultures have ever wrestled the troubles that seem to continually arise in the world. Myth is not moral admonishment, it is a generous map.
You are invited to join this group of the intrepid, the curious and the wild at heart to converse in the old language of ritual. Come for the evening, or for the evening and the day.
