The Animals Behind the Bones: animal influence on Mediterranean culture

Hosted by the Finger Lakes Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association, this presentation by Dr. Lubna Omar explores the crucial role animals played in shaping human culture in the Eastern Mediterranean, from the prehistoric era to the beginning of the Iron Age. By examining zooarchaeological findings, we will reveal how both domesticated and wild species influenced social practices, economic systems, and rituals throughout history. Dr. Omar is the Associate Director of the Center for Middle East and North African Studies at Binghamton University.
