Scholars and enthusiasts of American history will meet and discuss the question, "where are we at after 250 years?" The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution brought together at least six streams of Anglo-Saxon civilization: the rule of law, the Reformation, the scientific and industrial revolution, capitalism, the belief in progress, and liberal democracy. After 250 years, can all these foundational aspects co-exist in harmony? Is the republic laid down by the founders viable? Does it have to change to survive, and if so, in what way?
