About this Event
American racing history doesn't follow a single line. It runs through early endurance contests and speedway circuits, through stock car ovals and the long straights of Le Mans, shaped at each turn by different problems and different ideas about how to solve them.
This Demo Day puts four cars on the tarmac that represent distinct moments in that story. The 1912 National Model 40 Semi-Racing Roadster comes from the period when American competition motoring was still finding its footing. The 1933 Auburn 12-165 Salon Speedster reflects the prewar tradition of pairing genuine performance with coachbuilt style. The 1967 Ford Mk IV was built with a specific goal: to beat European manufacturers at Le Mans, which it did. The 1970 Plymouth Superbird arrived at the height of NASCAR's aero wars, when teams were rethinking the relationship between bodywork and speed.
Across different eras and disciplines, these cars share a tendency toward ambition and cubic inches. Behind each one are engineers, drivers, and patrons who thought the answer to the problem in front of them was more. A century separates the National from the Superbird. The impulse behind them is recognizable across all of it.
