The American Dream: Who Is It For? Film Screening and Fireside Conversation
About this Event
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Detroit-based artist Ackeem Salmon brings his interdisciplinary film project Still We Rise: Self-Portrait Detroit (2024) to the Main Library for a special community screening and fireside conversation. Featuring filmed performances, interviews, and conversations with Detroit residents, the film explores how collective memory lives within people, neighborhoods, sound, and intergenerational experience and asks what the American Dream has meant, and still means, for Black Detroiters. Stay for the conversation: audience participation and open dialogue are at the heart of this evening.
