THE VIBE:
R&B, Funk, Soul, Pop, & Spoken Word Poetry
Join us for an evening with some of Art & Soul's featured artists and alumni, including performances by acclaimed Allison Victoria, Dexter Clardy of Shvdy Rollins (formerly Huckleberry Funk), and spoken word poet jus Will. Since 1996, Art & Soul has helped advance the careers of Black artists in Indianapolis. The festival kicks off Black History Month each year and features public events that celebrate Black visual art, music, dance, and literature. Art & Soul, presented by Indy Arts Council, is supported annually by Lilly Endowment Inc.

ALLISON VICTORIA
Singer, songwriter, emcee, and self-taught musician from Indianapolis, IN, Allison Victoria’s unique and distinctive style ranges from soul, hip-hop, R&B, folk, gospel, pop, jazz & much more. Allison always brings a refreshing rawness on and off the stage. She has rooted herself in the community by intentionally using her art with purpose with the mission to be a true voice for others and spread love one song at a time.

DEXTER CLARDY
Dexter Clardy is known for his dynamic performances of R&B, soul, funk, and contemporary Black popular music. As lead singer of Indiana-based, alternative R&B band Shvdy Rollins (formerly Huckleberry Funk), Clardy has shared bills with acts such as Twenty-One Pilots, Ava Max, Doja Cat, Khruangbin, Dumpstaphunk, and the Main Squeeze. He is an Indiana University graduate and veteran of the Indiana University Soul Revue. His sultry vocals and the band’s infectious energy have earned a dedicated following that is sure to influence generations to come.

“About 20 years ago, Will King III hovered over the sign-in list at an open mic. He scanned the stage names, realizing he didn't have one himself. So he thought up something clever on the spot: jus Will. The second word is his full first name, simply as it is — not William, not Willis, but ‘jus’ Will. No smoke and mirrors, as he tells it now.
Who I am on stage is who I am in real life,’ he said. The name stuck and is now the moniker for his career as a poet, comedian, and sometimes a mix of both. jus Will has played rooms in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, among other major cities. He wrote ‘The Missedprint of a Poet’ about his journey, recorded an album and EPs, and has another spoken-word project in the works. Locally, he hosts the open mic called the Green House Affect at Pharm Free Life in Castleton.”
