The Alabama Solution

Join GLIDE’s Center for Social Justice for a powerful screening of "The Alabama Solution", a documentary that exposes the realities of Alabama’s Pr*son system and centers the voices of those living within it. The film invites us to confront the human cost of incarceration, the forces that allow injustice to persist and the urgent need for accountability and systemic change.

The evening will begin with a mixer from 5–5:45 p.m., followed by the film screening from 5:45–8 p.m. and a Q&A from 8–8:30 p.m. with Alabama Pr*son justice reform advocate Julie Godwin. Julie has participated in community-driven reform conversations connected to the film and grassroots advocacy surrounding the Free Raoul Poole Facebook page. Grounded in her life valuing convictions, she advocates for the value and dignity of every human life, opposes capital punishment and supports the abolition of the death penalty. Guided by compassion and moral courage, Julie emphasizes mercy, rehabilitation and the possibility of transformation within a justice system too often defined by punishment.

Julie Godwin is a Pr*son justice reform advocate in Alabama, committed to advancing a more humane, restorative, and equitable criminal justice system. Her advocacy centers on dignity, redemption, and second chances, with a particular focus on the human impact of incarceration and sentencing policies. She has been associated with community-driven reform conversations connected to The Alabama Solution and grassroots advocacy surrounding the Free Raoul Poole Facebook page, reflecting her dedication to fairness, accountability, and systemic change. Grounded in her convictions, Julie speaks out for the value and dignity of every human life, including within the justice system. She is a principled opponent of capital punishment and supports efforts to abolish the death penalty, emphasizing mercy, rehabilitation, and the possibility of transformation. Her work is guided by compassion, moral courage, and a steadfast belief in the inherent worth of every person.
